You can create YouTube shorts directly on the YouTube app. Here is how:

Similar to IG Reels and TikTok, YouTube Shorts can be filmed directly in the app. You can upload a video recorded on your phone as well.

- After creating your Shorts video, you can use YouTube Shorts to edit your video.
- Similar to IG reels, you can alter the speed, add a filter, add music, use a green screen, etc.
However, the YouTube Shorts editor has limited edit options. You can use another software to edit and optimize your video to achieve more views and engagement.
Publish YouTube Shorts Video
- Once you have finished editing your YouTube Shorts video, you can publish it on YouTube.
- Add a suitable title and description.
- Make use of appropriate and relevant keywords.

You will be making your YouTube Shorts video on your phone instead of the YouTube app. See that you make videos with a duration of 60 seconds or less. In the app, you are cut off automatically when the time comes.
So, when you are filming the video yourself on your phone, see that you set a timer or edit to that mark while recording and editing the Shorts video.
Edit Your YouTube Shorts Video outside the App
Edit your video after filming it. The main advantage of creating and editing your Shorts video outside YouTube is that you make the most out of editing software and employ an array of editing features.
Upload Your Shorts Video
Now you can upload your edited YouTube Shorts video and upload it on the YouTube app. The method remains the same. Open the YouTube app and tap on the + icon. Select the Create Short option and upload your video using your phone.
If your video is less than 60 seconds, you can use YouTube to upload it directly rather than using the YouTube Shorts feature. You have to follow the basic method of uploading videos on YouTube. Owing to its short duration, the app would recognize it as a Short already. However, to make sure that it is uploaded as Shorts, check for the red icon of Shorts on the video thumbnail after publishing it.
