Taylor Swift has been giving bits and pieces of information about her 10th studio album, Midnights since August. The singer has taken a break from rerecording her back catalogs to make a new album. Taylor revealed at the 2022 VMAs that her next release is not going to be another rerecorded album as assumed previously. The much-anticipated studio album came out on October 21 and a brand new music video.
The album became the most-streamed album in a single day in less than 24 hours and later Swift became the most-streamed artist on Spotify setting the record for the biggest pop album on Apple Music.
The Album’s Genre
When it comes to the album genre, Midnights is a return to pop after folk-alternative styles heard in Evermore & Folklore. The new album feels inspired by the 70s. You would find hints of the 70s era spread throughout the album. The visuals and aesthetics of the album mirror the same.
What Does Taylor Have to Say About Midnights?
When the singer announced the new record, she called it the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life. Swift further said:
“This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching — hoping that just maybe when the clock strikes twelve… we’ll meet ourselves.”
On September 21, Swift mentioned on TikTok that she would be unraveling one song title at a time randomly in a video series called Midnights Mayhem. So, the complete track list had been released already.
