1. CODA
At the 94th film festival, CODA has named the best film of 2022. The main character of CODA (Child Of Deaf Adults) is a young girl named Ruby. Ruby is the only hearing person in her family, and she struggles to maintain the family’s fishing business. Ruby also shares her passion for singing in high school. Because of its heartbreaking passages, the film is a must-see depiction of a 17-year-old girl’s struggle to realize her aspirations while receiving support from her family. CODA won the best film award in 94th film festival.
2. Drive My Car
Drive My Car is the first Japanese movie to be included in the list of best pictures. The movie plot is written about three main characters Yūsuke Kafuku (a stage actor and director), his wife Oto, and a young television star Kōji Takatsuki (Oto`s boyfriend). There are many other characters in the film, but they play relatively minor roles. The film depicts a love in which the husband accepts his cheating wife with grace and acceptance.
3. King Richard
American biographical sports drama King Richard was written by Zach Baylin and directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green. In the movie, Will Smith plays Richard Williams, the proud father and hardworking coach of his talented tennis stars daughters Venus and Serena Williams.
Both the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review considered it to be among the top 10 films of the year. At the 94th Academy Awards, it received six nominations, including Best Picture, and Will Smith took home the trophy for Best Actor.
4. Licorice Pizza
The American comedy-drama Licorice Pizza is written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. It marks the first screen appearances of both Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman. It was the first picture wholly produced, promoted, and released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards since 1988’s Rain Man. It was nominated for four prizes at the 79th Golden Globes and won three, including “Best Film,” from the National Board of Review. The American Film Institute also called it a top film of 2021.
5. Dune
Denis Villeneuve directed the American science fiction epic Dune. Despite having a simultaneous broadcast on HBO Max, the film was a financial success, earning $12 million worldwide. Both the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute included Dune in their lists of the best movies of 2021. It won a total of 10 nominations at the 94th Academy Awards.
